Mary Katherine Bomba (also known as MK) is the 17-year-old daughter of Professor Bomba and the main protagonist the 2013 film Epic. She is named after Mary Katherine Joyce, William Joyce's daughter, who died at age 18 from a brain tumor.
Appearance
a pony-tail and bright green eyes. Although Epic seems to take place in summer, MK wears a pink hoodie similar to Jack's, with a grey striped T-shirt underneath. She also wears a short grey skirt over black knee-length tights, as well as high-lace combat boots.
Personality
In the beginning of the film, Mary Katherine is shown still grieving for her mother, who has recently died. Under a lot of emotional stress, she is more cautious and laid-back than her father, with whom she has problems with communicating. When first given the pod, MK is reluctant to go with Ronin to Nim Galuu until the pod latches onto her. Throughout the film, she opens up, showing her sweet and caring nature. She does not seem to mind the field mouse at first, even finding it "cute" until it attacked her and Nod. MK is also pretty quick-thinking and level headed, as she was able to figure out how to lure the bats away from the moon by using the bat sounds on her dad's iPod. She's also a very practical character, and by the end of the movie she learns to see the beauty in life and to believe in things that she can't necessarily see.
Powers and Abilities
While MK does not have any special abilities, she is shown to be quite strong and highly adaptable. She learned how to ride a bird very quickly, and was comfortable riding one (unless Nod was driving) after only a few minutes.
After shrunken down by Tara, her anatomy adapts into the same spectrum as that of the Leafmen, being able to jump great distances and move at the same dimensional speed as the smaller creatures, making larger creatures (like humans) appear to move slower.
Role in the Crossover
Mary Katherine is a minor character in the RotBTD fandom, only appearing in Rise of the Epic Brave Tangled Dragons, or Rise of the Epic Brave Tangled Frozen Dragons. Often times she appears as a friend to one or more of the female charcaters (Rapunzel, Merida, or Anna) and in some cases, when she is not paired up with Nod, she can be portrayed as a possible love interest to one of the boys, the most common one being Jack.
